Meet Mr. Yogesh Bajpai, a lead solution architect from ITC Infotech, Pune. He is 35 years old and a father of a young daughter. Apart from his profession, he loves travelling and has travelled to many places within India and abroad in the last 12 years. The prospect of meeting new people and learning about the culture of each place has always fascinated him. He also has a bias towards hill stations and does not prefer visiting the same place twice. He is an extremely health conscious person and he says, for him, taking care of his health is as basic as having food and drinking water. Let’s get to know more about him…

What is your health and wellness goal of 2016 (or a general health goal)?

My overall goal is to be healthy and more importantly, to be active. When I checked my BMI 4 months back, I was 6 kgs above my normal BMI levels. My goal was to reduce those extra pounds not by crash dieting or starving but in a healthy way.

“I didn’t find time to have breakfast” is a common excuse that most of us give for skipping the most important meal of the day. What motivates you to not give that excuse?

It’s very basic for me. I consider my internal organs as kids, who, after fasting for the entire night need something in the morning. Every organ’s need is different (some need protein, few need different vitamins/minerals/fibre/carbohydrate etc). I can fulfill all their needs only by having proper breakfast.

If I skip breakfast, my internal organs will be hungry impacting my overall body function in terms of Acidity/Obesity/Weakness etc and even more serious issues in the long term. Even if I eat something for breakfast e.g. paratha and tea, which will just supply calories+colestrol, they will fill my belly but will not provide proper nutrition.

What is your food routine like? Share some examples of healthy food that our readers would be interested to know.

Wake up at 5:30 am. Then, take 1 glass of luke warm water with lemon. It is an antioxidant. Go for walk and a few stretches. Have a smoothie after your workout.

Take a seasonal fruit at around 11 AM. Before lunch consume salad (cucumber, carrots etc) and then have lunch at around 1:00 PM(preferaby less oily and less spicy lunch). At around 3 PM, have green tea followed by sugar free, fibre rich biscuits.

Around 6:30, enjoy 1 milk-ginger tea with family, at home. Finish dinner before 8:00 PM with salad included. Have half a glass of luke warm milk before sleep.

More importantly, don’t be monotonous everyday with same routine. There should be one cheat day also (may be twice a month), when you can eat what you enjoy the most 🙂

You seem to make extremely healthy choices when it comes to food. Share a few words of wisdom to the others who also want to pursue healthy eating as a conscious lifestyle choice.

Just follow few very basic healthy food habits:

  • Keep drinking water on regular intervals (prefer luke warm water rather than cold water)
  • Prefer low GI(Glycemic Index) food. Google about them for more information.
  • Before 10-15 minutes of lunch/dinner, eat a salad.
  • Understand what you are eating and to what nutrients are being supplied to your body.
  • Eat atleast one seasonal fruit everyday.
  • Do some physical activity; at least 30 minutes of morning walk is a must.
  • Have your dinner atleast 3 hours before you sleep.

What are your interests outside of work? And how well do you manage time to pursue those interests?

I love traveling and exploring new places. Apart from that, I am associated with an NGO “Robin Hood Army’. Our aim is to serve food to underprivileged people. We collect surplus food from restaurants or marriage party halls and distribute it to the underprivileged.

I perform these activities after office hours / weekends.

If we asked you to motivate one person to be more healthier/fitter what exactly would you tell him/her?

I will just tell her/him: “Your stomach is not a dustbin. Eat food which help your body in some healthy manner. Don’t eat just to fill you belly. If you will be fit and healthy you can focus better on your work as well as your family. You will see happiness around you”.

How is helping you handle all your health goals?

It’s human nature that one gets motivation for something by getting inspired by something/someone. But that motivation dips gradually if she/he is keeping it only with her/him and there’s nobody to cheer them up.

Every morning, when I see the mail from, it reminds me of my goal to get better every day and that keeps me motivated. Also, I can see how others are getting better, like I am.

Who is your greatest inspiration in life and why?

Anyone, who is fit, healthy and happy inspires me.

If you had a soundtrack to your life what exactly would it be?

Zindagi kaisi hai paheli…kabhi ye hasaaye…kabhi ye rulaaye (from the Bollywood movie Anand).

His happy family
