As if there weren’t enough problems effecting our sleep, now this. Unfortunately it is the truth and it has to be taken seriously.
But I exercise, I am going to be okay.
Well, sitting affects the sleep cycle even if you exercise during the day. Humans are designed in a way that requires us to keep moving throughout the day. I can’t help it..I don’t have the time.
This is an excuse you need to stop giving yourself. There is no doubt about the fact that in today’s world most of us life a sedentary life. We have jobs that require us to sit in front of the computer screen for hours, our chores are taken care of by house help and commuting to work is either by car or some other vehicle. So basically there is hardly any time to stretch our muscles.
I don’t deny that, but at the same time we can take out time for a few stretches a day. Taking care of our health should be our top priority. Just because you cannot see instant adverse effects of sitting for too long, they will eventually start to show. So instead of suffering in the long run why not start taking one step at a time for a better, healthier life.
Losing sleep is not the only problem you will face if you fail to remain active. You will soon start to suffer from back aches, pain in your tail bone and muscle pain. These are caused due to your inactivity. Sitting for too long causes numerous other problems like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases.
And when you lose sleep a series of problems then start to emerge. You start over eating, getting depressed ,feeling agitated and of course start putting on weight.
Here are a few things you can do to sit less and stretch more throughout the day.
1) Get up regularly to fill your water bottle
2) Talk to your colleagues instead of sending emails
3) Make sure you stretch for a few minutes every hour
4) Eat light so you do not feel drowsy.
Your health is your responsibility. So make sure you are not laid back about it. Get up. Stretch. And make sure you sit up staright and get a good night’s sleep.
