We are what we eat, this little truism begins to sound more and apter as age begins to catch up. Working women need to take special care about their diet considering the dual job-roles that they are often subjected to. A well-balanced diet is the first step towards becoming healthier and having a positive mental space.
This, however, does not stop women from munching on whatever they can land their hands on through the day, be it at work or at home. The lack of time can often play havoc with one’s dietary habits, but this can be hugely detrimental to their health and be an invitation to serious illness when combined with over-exertion.
There are some very easy ways that one can ensure that their diet is balanced. Here are a few ways that you can maintain a healthy diet:
Cut Processed Food
While this may seem like an impossible task, processed food and drinks need to be a negligible portion of your meal. Ensure that you have enough natural snacks and fresh vegetables and fruits for when you feel like munching. Processed foods which have a high degree of sugar content, additives, preservatives etc. need to be dumped with immediate effect. These are not only very heavy in calories, they leave you feeling with the craving that you want more. If you are in office keep a salad box with you so as to munch on whenever you feel like having a snack.
Emphasise on Homemade Food
While this may seem like adding to your workload, having homemade food is one of the best and easiest ways of avoiding outside food. Share your cooking responsibilities if you can with your husband or cook, but always have a home-cooked meal. This will not only give you more satisfaction but also keep you from feeling overly hungry as the day wears on. Make sure you include a healthy portion of vegetables, dal and pulses to your meals.
Eat a Heavy Breakfast
The most important meal of the day is not something you should be skipping, however hurried you might be. Make sure you have a large helping of porridge, oatmeal, or a similar fiber heavy breakfast along with fruits and milk. If you must have coffee or tea, keep it to a minimum, the best case scenario would be to cut them out entirely. Sweeten your oatmeal and/or porridge with honey instead of sugar to make it healthier. You can even think of adding chopped dates to it.
Cut The Caffeine
Coffee and tea are a stimulant, and once you get hooked on your few cuppas a day, getting rid of the same can be a pain. These are also natural diuretics and can cause you to become dehydrated and can lead you to lose the natural calcium that is very important for your body. Replace the need for a hot beverage with green tea. Green tea is a natural anti-oxidant and will do wonders for your body.
There are a number of ways that one can stay healthy with, by simply focusing on their diet. There is a host of superfoods out there that can help you stay ahead of the health curve. Drinking enough water, cutting down on junk food are all a part of maintaining a healthy diet. A working woman needs to eat healthy to tackle the myriad jobs that come her way through the day.
