How does your typical morning look? Rushed with frazzled nerves, skipped breakfasts and a bleary-eyed start to your workday? Don’t worry! I’m NOT about to ask you to begin your day at 5 in the morning, finish an hour of exercise before you eat your oatmeal and head to work. However, using just ten minutes of the beginning of your day to shift your energy can make you feel like a different person. Here’s how it works:

A 10 minute stretch

You can do this right after waking up without even getting out of bed. Begin with your neck and shoulders and follow it up with some side stretches before working those hamstrings. It’s a tiny tweak that is bound to make you feel a whole lot better.

Make your bed

Gretchen Rubin, the author of The Happiness Project and Happier At Home found out during her experiments on becoming a happier person that people reported the biggest change in their happiness level when they started making their bed. Why? All because it gives the room a more peaceful vibe, it’s easier to find things in it and getting it done is easy. Not just that, doing it regularly gives you the satisfaction of having cracked a habit.

Eat fruit

No matter what some fad diets might tell you, eating fruit is great for your body. Fruit digests quickly, gives your body a big boost of energy and is packed with nutrition. People with blood sugar issues can still enjoy the benefits of fruit by choosing options such as green apples, avocados and pomegranate.

Go over your day

Taking some time every morning to think about what you need to get done during the day and your biggest priorities are can make you feel prepared and calm and set the tone for your day at work.

10 minutes of inspiration

Pick something that makes you want to jump out of bed and conquer the world and treat yourself to ten minutes of it. Watching Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I have a dream’ speech or listening to the Rocky theme song Gonna Fly Now while replaying Balboa’s training montage from the movie in your head can both do wonders.
